Raiders will periodically invade your island, and as such, upgrading your town with higher-tier gear, items, and buildings is important.
By completing challenges and progressing in island runs, even if your island fails to overcome the challenges, you unlock new content, which makes subsequent runs different and might give you the edge you desired.
