Caliko Goes Underground Chapter 4b

Caliko realized that the spirit Valkyrie, having sacrificed her life for Midgard centuries ago and now undeservedly trapped in the tomb, didn’t deserve to be banished forever! “Polonius!” she said to her porky pet, “I’ll bait the Valkyrie! When she’s in the chamber, pull this lever here to trap her inside!”Polonius shivered in fright and squealed in acknowledgement. The Valkyrie brandished her blade and charged at Caliko. Her knees shivering, she waited for the right moment, but the Valkyrie was so fast! Caliko tried to jump to the side, but she misjudged the Valkyrie’s speed and was struck in the side by her blade. The sheer force of the impact sent her tumbling in the air.
“AIIIIEEEEEEEE-!”
The Valkyrie’s momentum carried her forward into the chamber. Polonius leaped in the air and used his little trotters and considerable weight to pull the door lever down. The heavy stone door slammed shut, sealing the Valkyrie inside!
A groggy Caliko shambled to her feet and groaned. “Well donnnnne,” the ghost said. “The waaaay is clear.”
The trio proceeded deeper into the tomb, the air growing thicker the lower they went.
“Mister Ghost,” Caliko said, “If the shard is cursed, and I remove it from this place, does that mean...I’ll be cursed??”
“That is not for me to saaaayyy,” replied the ghost, “I am a retired elephant rider, not a sorcererrrrr. ”
As they came to a narrow corridor, a powerful glow could be seen at the end of it. “Careful! I think we’re almost there,” said Caliko.
Heavy footsteps could be heard above them. “Wait...do you hear that?”
