[Dev Blog #10] Beyond Mere Displacement
Hey hunters, to continue [ Dev Blog #9 ] skill optimization and remake, we would like to introduce new displacement skill designs in this blog.
The displacement skills in the first Torchlight: Infinite CBT can function as quick escape moves from fatal blows, or, move faster across maps for some good speed MF (Magic Find, referring to chances for better stat drops). In other words, the current displacement skills are used to boost dynamic action control filling core skill releasing gaps.
Based on this observation, we want to expand such skills with added effects, hence, we are announcing 3 new displacement skills targeting different gear types:
- Forward Slash for One-Handed Swords, One-Handed Axe and Staff;
- Spinning Blade for One-Handed swords, Daggers and Claws;
- Blink Bow for Bow and Crossbow.
We are looking forward to seeing new motion-craze dynamic builds revolving around these new skills.
Forward Slash (official name TBD)
Forward Slash is a skill with a cooldown timer dashing forward while dealing damage to enemies along with the movement. It has a rather unique mechanism, if the new buff – Thrill Blessing (official name TBD) is obtained and activated, one stack of the buff will be consumed to reset the skill cooldown timer.
Therefore, if the Thrill Blessing buff source is stabilized, Forward Slash's cooldown timer is possible to be lifted at once. Not to mention its outstanding damage.
Spinning Blade (official name TBD)
Spinning Blade is also an active skill dashing forward, it differs from Forward Slash with its build possibility to multi-damage: the number of damage dealt increases with skill speed. This skill automatically converts 50% of physical damage to chaos damage, giving players additional chances to cause poison to the enemy.
Multi-hit chaos damage gained from stacking attack speed can even cause multi-stack poisoning to the enemy.
Flash Bow (temporary name)
Flash Bow's dash counters the attack direction, and it triggers when firing 1 projectile that always pierces targets. Its motion mechanism is similar to the existing skill Bombard, the hero is pushed backwards against the attack direction.
Build up projectile affixes is one way to build revolving Flash Bow. Different from any stationary skills, it grants players extra action control while continuously attacking, providing a dynamic but fluid rhythm.
We are now studying the three new displacement skills' performance and their
potential to be used as core skills for builds. Will they inspire new battle styles? Will they surpass the traditional hack and slash skills? We are looking forward to hearing ideas and suggestions from all hunters to discuss with us via our SNS communities!
