In early this month, Chinese video game publisher NetEase launched an visual novel platform app called Dokific on Google Play and App Store. In the platform, users can play a set of selected and curated visual novel games in English.
The app is the overseas version of Yiciyuan, a text-adventure ACG game platform for the Chinese market, according to an announcement on Yiciyuan’s website.
Currently, people can enjoy a number of game titles on Dokific, such as Dating in Painting, Love Again (Editor’s Choice), The Glory of Desolated Planet (Hot), Rose Flame (Excellent Recommendation), and so on.
According to the app’s introduction, both players and game creators can find home in the platform. “As a player, you’ll enjoy access to original and immersive interactive visual novel works,” the introduction said, “As a creator, you have at your disposal a powerful and easy to use editor.”
However, it seems part of the app’s functions and user experience are still in development, as tapping on a certain game’s interface may erroneously direct the player to the opening menu. Besides that, there is an in-app pay function, which can unlock game plots or buy some props.
The app is now available in English and is not available in Japan, South Korea, Vietnam or other Asian major markets, but there is also a Thai version.
