I haven't known too much about VG series, but as a TCG, it has its own place, such as get special effect when in different clan, and it seems friendly for card battle beginners, with simple rules and the game has auto option, also features the original animation cut-in when summon powerful card.
Though I am not a fan of this series, from my perspective it's a good try for beginners. But card combination requires same rarity is somehow unacceptable to me.
