For many gamers, the Civilization series is the kind of strategy game that you can't help but keep going on and on, round after round, until you can't tell the difference between day and night. As for myself, I've spent nearly 200 hours on this game on the Steam platform alone.
Civilization VI has a rather high starting point. Because of the classic Civilization V, it is essential for it to make a breakthrough. As a 4X game (an abbreviation of Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate), it needs to make the four aspects of exploration, expansion, development and conquest interesting, while different from its predecessor. Take the newly added city function zones for example, which focusing on the differentiation of the roles of different cities. Plus, the use of policy cards to adjust the stage of development goals, the time-lapse animation of the completion of a section of the spectacle to enhance the sense of modernization, positive and negative effects of natural disasters to make the world more real. All of these restore the style of the Civilization series, meanwhile, making it more modern and strategic.
The core of the game strategy lies in these aspects: how to prioritize resources in the game, how to choose a country's development path based on its location and characteristics. The few advantages you gain in each round will continue to widen the gap between you and your opponent through a snowball effect. There are many different modes of victory; for instance, through technology, culture, religion, or conquest. There is no fixed victory condition.
The mobile version offers 60 rounds for free, and you can play 2 eras at standard speed. If you are quick, you can knock out a country. The UI has been adapted for mobile devices, but it's not as excellent as the PC version; the jaggies are obvious. The animations built into the game are also absent, and some models dropped frames. But to sum up, it's a great game, despite these shortcomings in visuals. And the rich gameplay alone makes it a great strategy game.
