Inside Review (PC) - Gaming with Joy

Translate
Inside is just one of those games that you will never forget after playing it. It's so atmospheric and cinematic, it's like you are watching a movie, but you are actually the protagonist. I can't tell you that much about the story because of spoilers, but the ending is just something else. I love how you just enter the screen without any backstory and how you have to learn the mechanics without any tutorials. You come across some really dark events and it becomes clear that the government is into some shady business, like mind control.
This game feels so real and I'm not talking about the story, but more about the animations and how everyone reacts. When you run away from someone you are looking behind you to check if you are escaping from them, I really love these small details, it gives you a great feeling of immersion. Chase scenes are really tense and if you get caught there can be some gruesome deaths so you have been warned.
I also really like the puzzle design, it's not head-scratchingly difficult, but it may take you multiple tries. There is also so much variety in the puzzle design, some puzzles are based on timing, some are parkour based and some require a bit of mind control. It's a bit annoying when you enter a big room and all of a sudden you realize you need something to progress like half way or at the end of the room and you have to run all the way back. It's a bit tedious and time consuming, but there are worse things.
It's a pretty linear game, but there are some optional collectables that will make it a bit less linear, because you have to follow these yellow cables that will lead you to them. Sometimes you even have to complete a little puzzle or an event to reach these collectibles, so you will miss out on some quality gameplay if you just skip them and if you find all of them and manage to open this door, you can even unlock a different ending.
Another thing I also really like is the sound design, like the ambient music, the sound of the environment and the sound effects of every single object. It's another factor that makes it really immersive and memorable and this is what I sometimes miss in similar games like this. Scenes like this (03:06 in video), where you feel totally alone and lost, because the ambient music is so fitting, give me goosebumps and I will never forget them. There are so many moments like this spread throughout the game and I really admire the developers for this kind of story telling and their attention to detail. I love how you unravel the mystery and there aren't many games that do it with so much finesse and that's why I appreciate this game so much.
So in general Inside is just one of those puzzle platformers that you will always remember because it's such a breathtaking experience from start to finish. The developers have put so much time and effort in this game that it really manages to immerse you in this dark and dystopian world. Eventhough I knew exactly what was going to happen when I played this game again for this review, I was still enjoying my time and I was in awe by the quality of this game. I'm really jealous of people who haven't played this game yet, I wish I could play this game again without having any knowledge about it.
I highly recommend Inside if you want to experience such a well executed mystery that will never leave your mind, especially the ending. There are more puzzle platformers that try to do what Inside has done, but none of them have managed to give me that same experience that Inside did when I completed it for the first time.
So be ready to unravel a very dark mystery in this dystopian world that will captivate you and immerse you as soon as you press the start button!
