SHOULD I PLAY PARTY ANIMALS?
Heck yeah, especially if you’re looking for a fun night with buddies that’s sure to end in screaming. Party Animals is a raucous party game where each player is dressed up as an adorable animal. Don’t let the cuteness fool you, though; these scaled, furred, and feathered friends are vicious, and the competition is a blast.
TIME PLAYED
I’ve spent around four hours with an early test version of Party Animals ahead of its launch on September 20. Even with a limited number of maps available—I think I tested around three—and minimal access to the game’s costume store, I still enjoyed what was here enough to not get bored.
WHAT’S AWESOME IN PARTY ANIMALS?
• Absurd, unpredictable body physics. Party Animals is in the Gang Beasts school of party games, which means trying to toss around other players while barely being able to control your own body. Some players might get frustrated by how loose the controls feel, but it’s all in the name of fun. After all, there’s nothing funnier than knocking out a buddy dressed as a tiger, picking him up to toss over a cliff, and then on the way slipping on a banana peel thrown by another player so you both go tumbling over the edge. Beautiful.
• The cute factor. You shouldn’t downplay how important being adorable is to Party Animals. Sure, the weird little blob guys of Gang Beast and the weird little egg guys of Fall Guys are both cute in their own ways, but nothing beats animals. And best of all, Party Animals has a huge variety of animals to choose from, even right from the start. With plenty more to unlock, everyone should be able to find an animal that fits them.
• Icy antics. I got to try a few different game modes across different maps in Party Animals, but the best by far was this game’s take on hockey. Played with a massive puck and players throwing their whole body’s into the game, I had a ton of fun with this mode. There’s even a surprising layer of strategy, as shield pick-ups by either side’s net allow players to take on a traditional goalie role. This was an absolute highlight for me.’
• Incredibly smooth online gameplay. Perhaps the most impressive part about Party Animals during the testing period was just how perfectly the game ran online, no matter how chaotic the action got. I was mostly playing with colleagues located in China, while I’m located smack-dab in the middle of the United States, and yet neither of our sides experienced any lag or any technical difficulties at all really.
WHAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT IN PARTY ANIMALS?
• More maps, more modes. This is obvious, and I’m sure the full release of Party Animals will have more than the small handful of maps in the test. Still, I’m hoping for a lot more. Like a lot, a lot. The more they have at launch or add over time, the better this game is going to be, especially if some of those maps offer new and unique game modes or objectives as well.
• Progression is still unclear. Character progress, unlocks, and currency all weren’t quite set in place for the test, so it’s too early to say how they’ll all play out. My main hope is that players will be able to earn and unlock a lot of cute animals to play as without having to do any microtransaction nonsense. Having some skins cost real money is fine, but that should be kept to a minimum, and the non-paid skins shouldn’t require a ridiculous grind to unlock. Here’s hoping.
💬 Are you planning to check out Party Animals when it launches in a couple weeks, or are you happy sticking to Gang Beats and Fall Guys for your party game fix?

mobile needs this type of game, fun and funny, no more battle royal and violence, games without a direct objective are tiring, we want fun games that provide content, we want ANIMAL PARTY
