World of Warcraft's tenth expansion kicks off an ambitious new saga for Blizzard's MMO

While many long-time Blizzard fans feel like World of Warcraft has grown a little boring in recent years, the developer isn't ready to give up on one of the biggest MMOs ever released yet. At last year's BlizzCon event, Warcraft executive creative director Chris Metzen took to the stage to reveal not just one but three new expansions for World of Warcraft, tied together by an epic overarching storyline.
Taken as a whole, Blizzard is calling this next stage of World of Warcraft "The Worldsoul Saga." It will kick off next year, as the game turns twenty years old, with its tenth expansion pack, The War Within. This add-on will see players journeying underground to explore four new zones set deep under the world of Azeroth.
The War Within is just the start, though. World of Warcraft: Midnight was revealed as the game's eleventh expansion, and it will focus on elven society and the growing war against the Void. The Worldsoul Saga will conclude with the game's twelfth expansion, World of Warcraft: The Last Titan. Blizzard promised this expansion will take place in new areas of the classic old world and, as the name suggests, will center on the Titans, an ancient race of extremely powerful beings who helped shape the history of Azeroth.
That's a lot for World of Warcraft fans to be excited about, but it's unclear when most of it will actually be playable. What we know for now is that The War Within's alpha will go live in spring 2024, with the full expansion launch planned for sometime later in 2024. Beyond that, Metzen promised that Blizzard would be working to bring us these expansions faster than the usual World of Warcraft pace, which is around two years between each expansion.
If that's enough to sell you on the Worldsoul Saga, you can preorder World of Warcraft: The War Within already. The base edition of the expansion costs $49.99 and includes the current Dragonflight expansion and a level 70 boost for one character. The $69.99 heroic edition of The War Within adds in a new mount and transmog armor set, while the $89.99 epic edition also includes a pet, some other in-game trinkets, 30 days of subscription time, access to The War Within beta, and three days of early access to the expansion before its full launch. Phew, that's a lot of goodies.
Is this massive plan for World of Warcraft's future enough to give the game new life for you, or is it still a dead game in your eyes? Sound off in the comments.

I had lost interest in WoW, but these new expansions and the overarching storyline sound exciting. I think I'm going to enter Azeroth again. I'm especially intrigued by the focus on elven society in the eleventh expansion.
