Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Mobile Beta Review — A Future Strategy Hit or Just Another Mobile Game?
I play the beta of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Mobile, a strategy game set in the legendary world of Westeros. After "several" hours of gameplay, here’s my detailed opinion
1. Graphics — ★★★★☆ 🙂
Visually, Kingsroad Mobile looks very good for a strategy game on mobile. The different regions of Westeros are nicely designed, iconic characters like Jon Snow and Daenerys are instantly recognizable, and the battle animations are clean.
However, cinematic cutscenes are a bit too rare, and some battlefield units lack detail when you zoom in too closely
---
2. Gameplay — ★★★★★😃
The gameplay is a classic mix of city-building, exploration, and real-time strategic battles. You build your kingdom, recruit heroes, and participate in alliance wars.
What really stands out is the political and diplomatic aspect: alliances, betrayals, and territory wars are central to the experience — very fitting for a Game of Thrones title.
However, the mechanics are pretty standard for the genre, and progression can feel a bit slow without spending premium resources.
---
3. In-Game Purchases — ★★★☆☆🤔
As expected from a mobile strategy game, Kingsroad Mobile comes with a fairly aggressive monetization system. Many essential resources (gold, speed-ups, rare heroes) are locked behind the store.
The game isn’t fully pay-to-win, but free-to-play players will likely struggle at higher levels or in alliance wars against heavy spenders.
---
4. Controls / Interface— ★★★★☆ 😶
The interface is clear and well-designed for mobile gameplay. Navigating through menus is smooth, and battles are easy to control with touch commands.
However, on smaller devices, some UI elements feel too small, especially during large-scale battles where precision is required.
---
5. Optimization — ★★★☆☆ 🤨
Optimization is decent but still needs work. The game runs well on recent devices (at least 6 to 8GB RAM recommended), but noticeable frame drops occur during intense battles or with lots of visual effects on-screen.
On lower-end devices, loading times can feel long, and the game tends to heat up quickly. There is a “performance mode” option, but it’s still limited and could benefit from further graphic adjustments.
---
Final Thoughts — ★★★★☆ 😉
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad Mobile is a good strategy game that will appeal to fans of the series. The world is respected, the visuals are well done, and the political/diplomatic aspect adds real value to the experience.
However, like many mobile management games, in-app purchases might frustrate competitive players. Optimization also remains a key point to improve before the official release.
Recommended Specs: At least 4 to 6GB RAM with a mid-range or high-end processor for a smooth experience.
Final Rating:
3.5/5✅ — A promising Game of Thrones strategy game, but still a work in progress

For an hour of play in average quality in 30fps , the game still made my phone warm up 😅 (oneplus nord 4)

I played 3h on highest with 60 fps, it needs better optimizing, tends to lagg a bit in fights for a few seconds. But overall it works fine, it didn't over heat but got a little warm after those 3h. Playing on RM10
