why the hell is this app requesting access to make and manage phone calls? that's insanely sketchy and I absolutely can't justify rating this any higher than 1 star until this is
1.) sufficiently explained in such a manner that a fellow developer would be able to understand why this permission is being requested, and
2.) the permission request is removed in it's entirety, as well as permission to manage entire file system. Android has a feature that gives your app it's own storage, and there's no reason not to use this, instead, and
3.) developers list, in an easily accessible and both human readable and, again, in depth enough that a fellow developer would understand the reason for this permission request.
it's insanely sketchy to download an app and be immediately greeted with permission requests to literally access every red flag permission in Android. might as well be asking to be a sysadmin of the phone at this rate, Christ

hahaha. thanks for the laugh: D I'm not sure why it's reporting so much playtime. I opened it once, saw the requested permissions, and then shut it off to research it and find out why in the world they'd want that permission. It's possible that, given As far as I can see, there's zero reason to ask for both permissions (phone or full access to file system) except for nefarious purposes. If the app had been produced many years ago, say 2017ish, then I could maybe see, as some legacy apps to this day still make requests for permissions that are widereaching just to get at a single feature which had gotten bundled up with it in the permissions groupings of old, but 2019 should be recent enough to make this extremely unlikely. To be clear, what this app is asking for gives them access to your phone call logs (and the ability to modify them), your phone number, the ability to make and receive calls, the ability to read your texts, the ability to send texts, the ability to delete texts, and the ability to read, delete, or modify any of the files on the device (though some of this depends on your Android OS version, it gets far worse the further back you go). Their privacy policy is a big chunk of legalese that tries very hard to distract you from the sole fact that they absolutely can and will do whatever they please, and for whatever reasons, and unbeknownst to you, and without ever notifying you. It pretty clearly spells out the picture, after countless nonsense words meant to tire you out and beginning with specifically their policies regarding sweepstakes and other irrelevant crud and how they won't misuse your data during a sweepstake or your credit card number. Yet towards the end, it explicitly states in no uncertain terms that you're also agreeing to one of their marketing contractor's privacy policies, which is even more dull to read, but blatantly states that they intend to use your data, and that is whatever data they can possibly get off you and legally use (in Germany, as far as I can see), by selling it. There's no reason they would be including these permissions if they had no intention of harvesting it. Also, given that I posted that comment on my Pixel 3a XL, I'd assume I was most likely trying to see what the app was accessing, since my Pixel is rooted and has numerous tools to help analyze app behavior. I would highly caution you, and anyone else, regarding this or any other app requesting these permissions. Ask yourself: does this app have an obvious reason why it wants access to... and then, for the Phone permission, my call logs, text messages, even the ability to send a text or call a number? and for Files, every single picture, document, or other file on my device ever created and to be created while I still have this app installed? Google, by the way, lists Phone and Files both as "DANGEROUS" permissions that rarely have a use and usually are only used in specialized apps, like a file explorer and a phone call recorder, for example.
