Right Runner - Calling All the Youths in the World and Run for Your Rights

Collaborating with Nexus Studios, the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Latin America and the Caribbean launched an endless runner game - Right Runner. Different than other running games, most of which are jolly and relaxing, Right Runner sets a serious tone.

Commemorating World Children’s Day and 30 years since the United Nations adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF, together with Nexus Studios, created Right Runner. They hope to educate and empower the children, especially for those live in disadvantaged areas, raising the awareness of human rights among children.

The team draw on regional elements, both visual and audio, from Latin America and the Caribbean, and create an atmosphere that would resonate with the players.

[Gameplay]

The developer brings players into an animated world, with chilling techno music in the background. Players collect megaphones, make trick moves, and meet friends, aiming to overcome the barriers on their way and parkour to the destination.

The game consists of five levels and each has different themes, addressing different types of human rights.

✧ Level 1 - Right to Play

Take out your skateboard and have fun!

✧ Level 2 -Right to Learn

Run with your friends and find your way to the school!

✧ Level 3 -Right to a Safe Environment

Oh it’s raining heavily outside and everything is flooded. But don’t let anything slow down your pace. Mind the broken wires and annoying flies!

✧ Level 4 - Right to be Protected

Utter darkness, sharp swords, and spooky silhouettes. You are surrounded by wickedness. Don’t be afraid and keep running!

✧ Level 5 - Right to be Heard

Gather together with your friends at the top of the mountain. Claim your rights and make yourself to be heard!

Bernt Aasen, UNICEF Regional Director of UNICEF for Latin America and the Caribbean a.i., once said that “The most memorable way children and young people can learn about their rights is by playing.” Hopefully that more educational gaming app like Right Runner will be developed in the future.
