Haunted Dorm Review—A Dauntless Yet Confounding Endeavour of the Stout-Hearted in a Ghastly Housing

For some unknown reason, one of my mates, Arthur, thought it was an ace idea to get us out of our houses and drag us to Pluckley, Kent, early this week. Looks can be deceiving when it comes to this gorgeous Wealden village — it is, after all, astir with tales of the paranormal.

I'll admit that I have always loved a good old ghost story. So, you can say I am primed to have a ghost sighting, or rather, hopeful for one. And at Pluckley, ghosts are a big part of the village (I mean, it has been awarded the Guinness World Record for Britain's most-haunted village back in 1989).

As we are stuck indoors from the red weather warnings, Arther decided to bring it up to a whole new level by having us download a horror game that's still in beta — Haunted Dorm. Gosh, sometimes I wonder what's going on in that head of his 🤦🏻‍♀️

Anyways, the premise here is idiotically simple. Haunted Dorm is a strategic tower defence game that's all about using whatever inventive means you have on hand to survive the night.

Through a series of tasks, you will be off on your lonesome in a room of your choice throughout the dreadful night, where you fend off a dream hunter *CoughGHOSTCough* from wrecking the door to get to you.

In the beginning, you may face a steep learning curve when it comes to familiarising yourself with the game mechanics (Trust me, it'll get better in time). Even so, that doesn't stop me from getting all fired up with guns ablazing onto the unexpecting hunter (while cackling maniacally, of course).

As fun as that sounds, just be prepared to tear your head out... a lot. 

Although the game may not last for long, I've come to realise that the overly simple game mechanics does, in a certain sense, become quite a bore yet remains quite addictive. After all, each night is always different, but it's well worth it when you actually pull it off. What's more, nothing beats watching someone getting eliminated, IMO.

On a different note, you may encounter some issues with the translations. Still, with the whole ominously perilous atmosphere going on, who on earth would be willing to set aside time to pen down writings in a sophisticated fashion? Don't you agree?
