Friday Night Funkin' is a rhythm game in which players must pass multiple levels, called "weeks", and each level contains multiple songs. Every week, players face a different opponent.
During the "story mode" game, the opponent will sing a pattern of notes, and then the player must mirror the pattern of notes by clicking on the arrow. Later songs introduce more complicated patterns, and sometimes the playerโs pattern is different, depending on the opponent or the duet of two singers.
At the bottom of the screen is a status bar indicating how the player is performing. The left side of the bar graph is red, representing the opponent. The green on the right represents the player. Successfully hitting a note will increase the size of the player's sound bar, while missing notes or pressing when there are no notes will cause the opponent's sound bar to expand. If the opponent's sound bar occupies all, the player will lose. If a whole song can be completed, the player wins.
Every week, players can choose the following three levels of difficulty: normal, easy and difficult. As the difficulty increases, the speed of entering the arrow will increase, and the pattern of the arrow will become more complicated. The player's highest score per week on each difficulty level will be recorded and displayed in the upper right corner of the week selection page.
In addition, you can play downstream in the "free play" mode, where players can choose their favorite tracks to challenge individually.
