FRAG Pro Shooter - More like, Lame Pea Shooter.
I was scrolling around TapTap as usual, I was looking for cartoonish third-person arena shooter games that has similarities with the likes of T3 Arena or Splatoon. I thought maybe I'll find something unique and different, something I've never seen or played before. And then I found this goofy looking game out of the blue. I was interested by the video they put on their game page, showing a glimpse of the actual gameplay. The game is, indeed, a "unique" one. But, not in a good way.
I don't actually review things, but I just basically telling my own experience with games. My first impression, things I like and things I don't, and if I like it, I'll stick with it. But well, here is what I found while trying this particular "unique" game..
CORE GAMEPLAY
It's a 3rd-person team-based, single-player, with a taste of MOBA(Huh?). There are 2 teams, 5 characters, 3 main objectives, and 900 points on each opposing sides. The main objective here is to reduce enemy points to zero, or as low as possible before the time is out. You're zero-ing enemy team's points by taking down their objectives or by kills/eliminations (frags, as the game call it).
The most confusing part for me is the fact that it's supposed to be a team-based shooter(I think?), but there is only 1 player on each team. You deployed 5 characters, but you can only control 1 of them on real time. The rest of the characters will be controlled by AI (that barely shows any sign of intelligence), but you can swap characters you want to control during matches. While you're controlling a character, you can simply tap on an objective to command the rest of the characters, either to attack an objective or to defend your own objective. But, keep in mind that these are the only commands you're able to give them. You can't tell them to attack a specific enemy character or to go to guard a very specific area of on the map.
UPGRADES & CUSTOMIZATIONS
Surprisingly, there are quite amount of characters available in this game. But, yeah, they're mostly locked behind loot boxes. Yeah, you read that right. Loot boxes, my biggest enemy. There are 5 of different classes, such as; Attack, Defense, Camp, Center, and Wildcard. Center and Wildcard class being the only classes that able to take actions on both Attack or Defend commands.
Each characters has their own unique abilities, some of them could provide damage, healing, shields/physical barriers, buffs, etc. You can equip different mods and modifier items to each characters, that seemingly gives them passive abilities such as self healing, more rounds, etc. And there are also various skins for each characters with different qualities and rarities.
In order to get characters or upgrade materials needed to level up characters, you need to collect a certain amount of cards. Yeah, that's right. You gotta collect those cards from the loot boxes, both character-specified cards, and Joker cards, are the type of cards that you're able to use on any characters depending on its rarity. You also need Gold currency to level up each individual characters. And each level has different amounts of cards or gold needed, it'll get aggressively increasing later on the higher the level is.
That's all the essential things you need to know about the game. I don't wanna explain the rest of the game any further, because I'll be honest here; I don't enjoy this game, at all, let alone recommending this to anyone.
Let's skip everything, and talk about the most outrageous things I've experienced while playing this game. Yep, ridiculous monetization.
MONETIZATION
These stupid emotes cost around $2.. How ridiculous.
They want your money, like, they really really want YOUR money. The game constantly forcing me to see their "offers", on every single damn occasion possible. You just won a match, limited time offer pops up. You just leveled up a character, another offer pops. You just logged in back into the game, boom, here's another 5-6 pop ups.
But here's the worst part; the in-game ads. The amount of ads I have to see is a bit ridiculous, and it's so annoying. You wanna open a chest? Here's an ad. You wanna open your chest faster with a key that able to skip the waiting time? Here's another ads. Wanna claim your rewards from leveling up the battle pass? Perfect. We got another ads for you. They even want you to watch ads to double the rewards you get from opening loot boxes.
I honestly don't mind ads, as long they're not excessive and intrusive. But the way they present their ads and its placement is just too ridiculous for me.
LAST VERDICT
It's a very weird game for me. Each team has 5 characters, so i thought it'll be like T3 Arena or Overwatch, where there are 5 players on each side too. This 1v1, team-based, solo shooter (bruh?), I don't even know what to call it, it's just weird. There are a couple different modes, and later I found out, there's apparently a 2v2 co-op mode that let you team up with an actual human. The maps aren't that big or too small, each match has only 2 and a half minutes, but the game felt extremely slow and the forced aim assist makes the shooting part does not feel good at all.
But I'll still give them some credits here, for how they managed to make the game incredibly small and it's rare nowadays. It only took around 300 MB of space and it runs pretty well on my fairly mediocre phone, with stable 60 fps on the highest graphic. But still, for my own taste, it's not an enjoyable game. The amount of pop up offers and ads, are just outrageously intrusive and super annoying. And also the fact that the game still has a huge black bar on the upper part of my screen, for still having that on these very age, it's so stupid.
Despite how bad the game is, the game has been around for a while and it seems like the game is still alive and still has many active players. There's an in-game social features where you can see people sharing their unboxing, reviewing characters, club recruits, even making polls or just a simple text post.
But seriously, don't bother giving it a try. Just go play T3 Arena.
