The End of the World (TEW) has you take on the role of a man who has recently broken up with his partner.
Story (★★★★☆)
✔️ See the world through the eyes of a broken-hearted person who has yet to learn how to live after love (Just in time for Valentine’s, eh?)
✔️ Deep, metaphorical narrative that speaks to you
✔️ Close resemblance to Lost Echo
❌ It may not be for everyone
Gameplay (★★★☆☆)
✔️ Side-scrolling point-and-click exploration game that is set in England
✔️ Loads of interactive items in the game
✔️ No quests or objectives
❌ Short game
❌ No checkpoints
Graphics (★★★★★)
✔️ Stunning hand-painted designs
✔️ Contrasting worlds between memories with red hue and a decaying post-apocalyptic one
Audio (★★★★☆)
✔️ Hauntingly impactful and emotional soundscape
Verdict (★★★★★★★★☆☆)
Now that I’ve found something to tone down the Valentine’s Day hype, TEW is still an engaging piece of work that has surprised me thoroughly, for it has exceeded my expectations. Telling a story of the grieving through a unique, beautiful and deeply personal performance.
In any case, its interactive gameplay and stunning designs are indeed something that sets it apart from others. So, if you’re alright with dampening your Valentine’s Day spirit, this is definitely something worth investing some of your time into! Though it may scratch the old wounds for some.
