Understand first that I'm being justly harsher on this one because of the pay2win elements.
This game is yet another gungeon clone that doesn't even get the basics right. The movement has no weight to it, just feels like a mouse flying across a desktop screen, like you have no actual feeling of weight or footing inside your physical environment. The weapons have no impact. Play Gungeon. Shoot a bullet. Feel that crisp feedback you get from it when it hits its target. Nothing.
You will feel nothing here.
And auto-aim...why? Why? why? why?? why? Why would you put mandatory auto-aim in this game?? Having a joystick you could aim freely would take literally not one thing away from it. There is literally no drawback at all to being able to aim where you desire to.
And if you are going to have auto-aim, then at least have auto- *fire*? I seriously can't do anything at all with my thumb except keep it pressed down in the same exact spot on the screen the whole time in order to tell the game that I want to
"shoot things"?
why? this is foolishness.
Yes you have abilities you can use too, but the main button you'll be pressing is the shoot button. And the only function it serves is telling your character to "shoot". Which you will want to be doing about 90% of the time anyways?
Maybe you'll say "well aren't other shmups kinda like that too" yes but you can *aim* in them. There is an amount of decision-making involved still as you're aiming in front of things you want to shoot Other classic arcade shmups like "Dodonpachi" also have the added function of making you decelerate slightly when you shoot to give you more precision to dodge denser clusters/arrangements of bullets. I see people downvoting me. Seriously, if you think this is acceptable, just play "Dodonpachi" or "Espgaluda" for 5 minutes and tell me that doesn't immediately feel better. and these games are like 25 yrs old. this is basic stuff.
This mechanic alone adds an amazing ebb and flow to the action. here you're a cursor on a desktop though. no weight, no momentum carried, no variation in speed no matter what you do.. why even make it a joystick? might as well just be using my finger.
i really don't like this game. i played through the first 10 stages and yeah. along with the p2w stuff, just a big letdown for me.

well unfortunately i spoke too soon. there's a lot of good stuff about this game, but some of the design choices (even overlooking the ones I already pointed out) are just so flawed and broken. which becomes very apparent when you get to the 50s and 60s stages. i will be writing a new review though.

so I saw this comment today and I thought about it. and I gave the game another download just to try it out, reassess things, and see if i was being too harsh. this time i made it to stage 21 and honestly... it's probably a 3? i still can't overlook that the controls and shooting are just fundamentally poor and unpolished, but despite that, I didn't hate it..? some of the bosses after chapter 1 have some really creative patterns and they are admittedly pretty fun to fight even with how garbage the controls are. if the movement wasn't so finnicky and the shooting didn't feel so flat, and the game was just a tad less convoluted with all the gems and crystals and tokens, shards, etc (less monetized basically) yeah this would be a 5 star game.
