Wits of Gods Game Mode Rules Introduction

Translate
Welcome to the game mode demonstration and testing session of Wits of Gods. In this test session, we have prepared two different sets of rules. We hope your feedback can help us in preparing our future development plan.
We will launch the very first closed beta test on May 7th, 2022! Join our official Discord for the latest news and events, and to get exclusive testing rewards!
Let's start!
Gameplay Elements
Character Card: Each player chooses and controls 1 Character Card. These Character Cards are deities and heroes of many legends and myths. (They all will eventually have their own stories. We are just not showing them right now in the demo version.) Attributes of a Character Card include Attack, Health, and Armor. Each Character Card also has 2 unique Powers.
Pet card: In addition to the character you picked, you can also choose a Pet card to assist you in battle each game. The attributes of a Pet card include Attack and 1 unique Power.
Card: During the game, players need to play a card to instruct their Character Card to do battle or directly cause some effect. For example, playing a "Strike" card cause your Character Card to launch an attack against another player's Character Card. Cards are classified into 3 categories: Action, which causes your Character Card to perform the corresponding action after being played; Spell, which directly causes a special effect after being played; Artifact, which is placed into the Artifact zone of the Character Card after played. Different Artifact cards have different special effects. Each Character Card may only equip up to 2 Artifact cards.
Modes and Rules
These two different versions of Game Mode share the same rules. They are simply 2 players versus 2 players mode. As long as you and your teammate defeat the opposing enemies on your screen, you win. Under the rules, as long as there is one person among you and your teammate survives, you will still win. Plus, if your teammate is dead and knocked out of the game, you will start to draw 2 extra cards and may launch 1 additional attack each turn. You will take over the Pet of your teammate, too.

Combat Rules
Whenever a Character Card or a Pet card attacks another Character Card, they deal basic attack damage to the target equal to their Attack. If the target has Armor, then Armor will take the damage instead. Otherwise, Health will take the damage. Spell Damage can ignore Armor and deals damage to Health directly. Pet can never be a target of an attack.

Turn Rules
The game is turn-based. Each player takes 1 game turn in turn. Each turn primarily consists of the following 2 phases:
Draw: At the start of the turn, if you have less than 10 cards in hand, you will draw up to 3 cards until you have 10 cards in hand. (If you already have 8 cards in hand at the start of the turn, you can only draw 2 cards.) All players draw from a shared Deck. The card in the shared Deck is called Card. All the cards in the shared Deck are fixed in different game modes. Players don’t need to build the Deck at all.
In this test session, we prepared two different game mode rule sets. These two game modes share the same rules regarding the parts above. Their main differences lie in the Card Playing rules. Now, we will introduce to you the rules of these two game modes.

Game Mode A:
Playing Card: After drawing, a player may play card(s) once each turn. When playing the card, a player may play 1-3 card(s) at their discretion, where a player may choose to play any single card or play 2-3 cards sharing the same suit or rank. After playing the card, the player then selects the target and activates the effect for the cards they played one by one. When a player plays 3 cards at once, they are called a "Triplet". Some of the Pet’s Powers are activated after a player plays a "Triplet". In the Card Play phase, in addition to playing cards, a player may also activate the active Power of their Character Card once, provided that the condition of the active Power has been met.

Game Mode B:
Playing Card: After drawing, a player may take action by playing cards. A player can play cards as many times as they want in one turn. Each time they play cards, a player may play any single card (except any special card that can only be played outside of their turn). Each Character Card will gain 1 attack chance at the start of the turn. "Strike" can only be played when there is a remaining attack chance. Some of the cards can be played outside of your turn, such as "Defend". When you play "Defend" during your turn, it will grant Armor to your Character Card. When it is not your turn, and some other Character Card or Pet Card is launching an attack against you, you can also play "Defend" to negate the damage from this attack. Therefore, players need to consider how to play their "Defend" carefully. They also need to be mindful of the presence of "Defend" in their opponent’s hand. Otherwise, they may fail to deal any damage even if they play "Strike". The Power of a Character Card or Pet Card can be activated in any phase, provided that the condition of the Power has been met.
New players are randomly assigned one of two game modes. Here you can see which mode you are playing. If you want to play the other one, move to Discord and download it.

These are all the rules for the game modes in the current version. There are 4 Character Cards and 4 Pet Cards in this demo version for you to choose from. Looking forward, we plan to design more characters and pets, and even more game modes, such as a mode where 6 or even 8 players play together. We welcome all kinds of feedback from you. Let's finish this game together, and make it as fun as we can!
