A creepy witch wants to eat you! - Witch Cry: Horror House Quick Review

Witch Cry: Horror House is an excellent blend of horror, fantasy, and puzzles, wrapped up into a delicious mobile sandwitch. (Get it?). And as satisfying as it is biting into a tasty sando, Witch Cry: Horror House kept me wanting more.

THE STORY

You play as Timmy, a boy who awakens in a dungeon after being captured by a witch. Now, it’s life or death—like she wants to eat you, dude!—as you try to escape a house full of magic and complete puzzles to learn the mysteries of this evil witch.

PLATFORMS

Witch Cry: Horror House is currently available for iOS and Android. I played on my iPhone 13 and felt just as anxious as if I was playing a tense survival-horror game on a console.

TIME PLAYED

I spent around three hours playing Witch Cry: Horror House. Like most puzzle games, your progression will totally depend on how quickly it takes to figure out the puzzles of the house and the difficulty setting you choose.

WHAT'S AWESOME

• Scares. This game reminded me of Haunting Grounds for the PlayStation 2, and like that game, it succeeded in keeping me on edge the whole freaking time. When the witch popped up out of nowhere, I actually jumped in my seat! I loved the thrill of being chased in Witch Cry: Horror House, and the way that I could hear the beating of Timmy’s heart when he was in danger really added to the atmosphere.

• Graphics. Witch Cry: Horror House looks fantastic and really brings the magical world of the house to life.

• Puzzles. The puzzles are well thought out, fit the context of the game, and require some brainwork to decipher. And it only ups the ante when you remember that a witch is chasing you the whole time. The game also includes a helpful hint system if you get stuck.

WHAT SUCKS

• Ads. Witch Cry has way too many advertisements. There’s nothing more frustrating than getting into your stride and being interrupted. You can remove the ads for $1.99, and it's worth it.

SHOULD YOU PLAY IT?

Treat yourself! Witch Cry: Horror House is loads of fun, and besides the annoying advertisements, I don’t have many complaints. As a fan of horror games with devious puzzles, I was very happy with this game.
