Another Shadow provides a great opportunity to play a puzzling, story-driven point-and-click adventure game. After playing for an hour and twenty minutes, I’m still trying to uncover mysteries and solve a buttload of puzzles.
If you've read some of the many reviews I've written on TapTap, you'll find that I absolutely love adventure games with puzzling scenarios. I mean, who doesn't like a little challenge, right? Well, Another Shadow doesn't disappoint in this respect.
The game started off by introducing me to Bastian and Carissa, a seemingly normal couple moving into a new house. But things could have been farther from normal. It turns out an ancient curse awakened in this house, taking Bastian to a shadowy realm, and I needed to figure out how to get him out.
Another Shadow revolves around solving puzzling scenarios to progress. The game features a unique mechanic that involves controlling both characters in a first-person perspective and switching between them. I needed to roam around the house, finding hints that could unlock areas or more clues.
Solving these scenarios challenged me, though. Most of the puzzles took a while to piece together and when I did solve them, it usually unlocked pieces to another mystery I had to figure out. Sometimes I was stumped for a couple of seconds, other times it took me nearly twenty minutes to solve these puzzles. There’s not really any indicator or hint to help guide me in tricky situations, so most of the time I just explored the house, hoping to find something useful.
Despite this, I really wanted to discover and unravel the mysteries of this ancient curse. I felt compelled to know if Bastian would ever return from the shadowy realm and reunite with Carissa. This curiosity led me to play more than I expected, and although I struggled along the way, I had so much fun. I do have to recommend sparing some time if you're looking to play Another Shadow since it'll take some length to get far in the game.
