Gang Beasts meets dodgeball in a solid but unremarkable party game - OddBallers Quick Review

PLAY IT OR SKIP IT?
Play it only if you’re looking for a decent party game. OddBallers is a cartoonish, dodgeball-inspired game that feels reminiscent of Fall Guys, Overcooked, and Gang Beasts. OddBallers features a bunch of enjoyable minigames that’ll keep your friend group busy, but be warned: It’s not worth playing alone.
TIME PLAYED
I played OddBallers for three and a half hours. Each match takes anywhere between fifteen to twenty-five minutes to complete. I spent nearly an hour trying to find a match online but wasn’t successful in the end. Since I couldn’t play with other players online, I had to ask a few friends nearby to play local matches with me.
WHAT’S AWESOME
• Gameplay. I had fun playing all the minigames OddBallers had to offer. From an upgraded version of dodgeball to surviving volcano strikes and shearing sheep, the game offers a wide variety of unusual and enjoyable activities.
• Visuals. I loved OddBallers’s eye-catching, cartoonish look. It’s adorable and goofy, and does a great job of making the game feel lighthearted.
• Party vibes. I dragged some of my friends over to play OddBallers with me yesterday, and it was one hell of a time. I was able to customize matches and pick whatever minigames I wanted to play with everyone, and it was a blast. Paired with food and drinks, I can see how OddBallers could become a beloved party staple.
WHAT SUCKS
• Lag. Even though I wasn’t playing online games, OddBallers would occasionally lag and make my character jitter. This was frustrating to experience, especially when it led to me losing an otherwise close game.
• Controls. The controls are the worst part of OddBallers—they’re too sensitive. Although OddBallers features characters that move in an even goofier way than they look. In other words, it’s tremendously difficult to control them. The controls feel finicky and sensitive, with the slightest joystick movement swinging my character across from one side of the level to the other.
• No proper tutorial. When I booted up OddBallers, I was immediately set into the game without any knowledge of what to do or where to go. I had to figure out which modes I could play and how to configure them appropriately. I even struggled to start a match.
• Online matches. I waited in the matchmaking queue for thirty minutes in the afternoon and forty minutes at night but still didn’t manage to find a single match.
