League of Legends’s adorable new champion has convinced me to give support a try

Translate
I’ve always disliked playing support in League of Legends. I mean, if there’s one role that gets the least amount of action and recognition, it’s support. Now, I’m not saying that people shouldn’t play support because who doesn’t need a heal or two in team fights, right?
But I’m pretty confident in saying that supporting isn’t for me. Well, maybe not until Milio arrives that is. Yes, this is a post about me, a one-trick Akali main that’s hard-stuck gold, converting to support because of a new champion that looks and seems bloody amazing.
Okay, I’d be lying if this wasn’t the first time I’ve planned to switch roles because of a new champion. I practically spent two months training to become an ADC main because of Nilah—and no, I don’t regret it at all—but yes, I was absolutely terrible.
However, supporting is a different story. I’ve probably spent over ten thousand hours on League of Legends and I’d roughly say only a hundred of those were ever used to play support. Well, unless carrying into late-game as Lux counts? I guess not.
Anyway, that all changes now with Milio. Who’s Milio? Only the most adorable little champion in the world, that’s basically Lulu version 2.0 and ten times better. Riot Games revealed Milio, the Gentle Flame earlier this week and I’ve been so excited. The champion uses fire magic to heal allies and protect them, while damaging enemies.
Milio’s abilities aren’t anything too absurdly overpowered from the looks of it, but the champion seems to shine through his ultimate skill and power to amplify damage output. His ultimate ability allows Milio to unleash a wave of soothing flames that heals and removes crowd control effects. This is insane because it’s literally an ability that cleanses the entire team of stuns, slows, and other debuffs and effects with a click of a button. In the right situations, this counters Aurelion Sol, Kled, Viego, Nocturne, and a lot of other champions that are currently busted in the current meta.
Besides Milio’s ultimate, the rest of his abilities work tremendously well with hyper-aggressive AD champions because the character can amplify damage, boost attack range, increase movement speed, and even burn targets. I can already see Milio being an absolute beast of a support when paired with other champions like Kalista, Vayne, Kai’Sa, and Twitch in the bottom lane.
But I’m not only interested in Milio because of his amazing ability kit, but also the character’s design and lore. The champion looks so cool, and I love that Milio uses smol, cute flame sprites as a way to heal friends and damage enemies. I also really like that Riot Games added more lore about characters from the League of Legends universe-based region, Ixtal. Qiyana was the last champion introduced from Ixtal and she was released in June 2019, so it’s really cool to see another character coming from the same region.
Riot Games already released a little sneak peek into Milio’s biography and the process of creating the champion online. That said, even though Milio’s abilities won’t likely be as overpowered as Bel’Veth’s or Nilah’s on release, it’s safe to say that the champion will be a lot of fun to play. I’m personally stoked to pick up Milio in League of Legends and I can’t wait for more stories about his lore to come out. Although I’m not totally sure if I’ll spend two months becoming a prodigy at supporting, I can definitely say Milio has convinced me to give it more of a try.

I always wondered why they made champs like illaoi or nilah, and in general who were they pandering too. Your post gave a lot of perspective as an actual human who liked this soft mexican boy to the point of wanting to switch roles. When I played lol I was a support main and when this one came out I kind of felt forced to play him cause of the solid heal and meta busting ult, but never liked his design, he seemed to come out straight from disney's Encanto with a dash of Coco. I actually miss the more traditional designs or when inclusion and diversity where not taken into consideration when came making characters and they just were.
