The Big F%ing game that’s PTW - Mighty Doom Quick Review

PLAY IT OR SKIP IT?
Play it, but look out for the annoying pay-to-win strategy that requires watching a million ads if you plan to progress at higher levels. Mighty Doom offers a very straightforward and addicting game of kicking ass and slaying demons to heavy metal. I had fun getting glory kills and accumulating points to get gear. I just wish the monetization had been different.
TIME PLAYED
I clocked in around three hours on Mighty Doom on an Android phone. I made it through two boss battles and got a few skill upgrades before the need to buy crystals—special gems for upgraded gear and skills that are rare to come by if you don’t spend real money—became more necessary. I found myself watching a lot of advertisements at this point.
WHAT’S AWESOME
• Gameplay. It didn’t really take much for me to get hooked into Mighty Doom. The fast pace and easy setup caught my attention immediately. I was thrust into the heat of battle right from the start, attempting to dodge enemy projectiles and administer glory kills to gain back health. My slayer leveled up as I progressed through stages, and I could choose my upgrades, including a freaking rocket launcher.
• Unlockables. There are many ways to upgrade the mini slayer in Mighty Doom, including different armor and weapons that kept me hooked as I worked toward the next big gun. Of course, this cycle of upgrades inevitably served as bait for monetization, but dammit, I can’t deny how great it felt blowing someone away with a rocket launcher.
• The tunes. It wouldn’t be Doom without awesome heavy-metal music in the background. Mighty Doom doesn’t disappoint in that regard, but I also enjoyed putting on my own soundtrack, popping on my headphones, and getting lost in the world of demon slaying
WHAT SUCKS
• Monetization. I rarely wish a game was paid rather than free-to-play, but Mighty Doom would be much better as a one-time purchase. Instead, I was constantly asked to purchase crystals to get upgrades, or to watch ads for said crystals. It was annoying and just took me out of the experience. And with so many upgrades and unlockables in the game, it’s easy to see the motive for going the heavily monetized free-to-play route.
💬 Will you play Mighty Doom or skip it? And what’s your favorite Doom weapon? Let me know in the comments.

I am having alot of fun with it. It's just getting started on my platform so i am waiting for more fun additions and tweaks. I am sure they are looking & listening to cool folks like you. Sure the balance is not there just yet (eliminating or working around the paywall) so i figure reviews as yours will help get the shine it needs. I am hopeful that they may have heard others & i on movement & pew pew simultaneously, a very nice surprise & WOW factor impression for the first implementation of controls.
