Call of Duty Mobile Season 3 adds some great new features, but its best addition is single-player

Translate
Season 3 of Call of Duty Mobile has arrived, and it’s drenched in the classic ’80s vaporwave colors. Trade that drab old olive camo paint in for some bright magenta and cyan, and load up some paintballs for the new map, Rush, which features inflatable obstacles in a purpose-built shoothouse. While there are new battle pass reward tracks to follow, new themed events to log in for, and the usual bevy of new seasonal challenges, possibly the nicest addition in Season 3 is the new single-player map training feature.
Call of Duty Mobile is the reigning champion of mobile shooters at the moment, but even with more than a decade’s worth of experience with the series on PC, it’s taken me some time to adjust to the touch control scheme. All my WASD reflexes and twitchy mouse muscle memory is useless here, and so I’ve frequently worried that I’ll fat-finger an input and let my team down during a crucial moment in battle royale.
Now, with the new single-player map training, I can pop into ranked multiplayer maps set up with a whole suite of customization options. I can add AI-controlled bots and select their level of difficulty, select which abilities I want active, and try out various gun loadouts I’ve created in Gunsmith.
It’s a huge help for players like me, since now I can actually spend some time practicing my aim and committing button positions to memory—I can’t stand one more embarrassing moment of missing the knife button when I’ve gotten into melee range of a hapless opponent, and fortunately, now I’ve got a place to work on that reflex.
The new paintball themed map, Rush, is also a nice tension-breaker—it’s obviously the same game as standard multiplayer COD, but the spatter of paintballs makes everything feel a little less sweaty than usual—another nice welcoming touch for players new to COD Mobile.
Call of Duty Mobile Season 3 starts today. Historically, seasons have usually run from four to six weeks, so hop on in anytime in April to start slinging some paintballs around in Rush.
