Against War is an unbalanced real-time strategy that's PTW

Against War is a PVP card-battler where you can play against people worldwide in real-time. If you're into strategy games, this probably sounds like your cup of tea. Unfortunately, Against War left me incredibly frustrated. With its long tutorial and mismatched battles, Most of my fun came from playing against the AI computer.
Strategy games are known for being challenging to learn. With this said, nothing makes me more disinterested than sitting through what seems like twenty-five minutes of a very dry AI-voiced academic lesson. To Against War's credit, you can skip the tutorial, but I wish there were some way to mix it with gameplay to break it into segments. There are plenty of strategy games out there that manage to make their tutorials fun and engaging!
Maybe it was me, but I couldn't win a match against a real-world player, even when I used the correct cards against my opponent's troops. It made me wonder how the game's matching system works. Although, Against War did a great job matching me against someone almost instantly. To make matters worse, winning matches against other players is how you gain in-game currency, so if I wanted to compete, I would have to spend money. Against War isn't subtle about this either. I could literally use real-world cash to purchase in-game gold.
I mostly had fun choosing the beginner level and battling against the computer. Ironically (or not), I never lost a battle when playing against the computer. Nevertheless, I earned few rewards for winning. Through this process, I got a feel for the game, and once I started playing, I did have fun. But given how long it took to start playing, the mismatched systems, and the PTW elements, other titles in the genre do it better. Don't take my word for it. See for yourself!
