If you really love puzzle games or want something to keep you busy during your free time, Cat of Khronos is the perfect choice. This brilliant puzzle game put me in the mind of a cat trying to get fish by manipulating time.
That setup might sound cute and charming, and it is! Don’t be fooled into thinking that means Cat of Khronos is a walk in the park though. This game has perplexed me through its many well-made puzzles. And even without much in the way of guidance or help, I enjoyed the game’s tough challenges.

The puzzles in this game are really difficult, but that’s exactly what makes them great. I had to slip through areas by bending time itself and avoid guards to acquire fish, and then safely travel back to my time portal to complete each level. Sounds easy enough, but this challenge proved a lot harder than it seems.
As I progressed through each level, I was introduced to new puzzles which only got harder to solve. But even though these puzzles challenged me, I always felt entertained and amused by them, which made Cat of Khronos feel fulfilling as well. It was also really pleasing to experience Cat of Khronos’s charming 2D pixel art style which embellished everything in the game. Every chapter had its own unique level design too, complemented by the game’s chill, classical music.
There are a few issues that hold Cat of Khronos back in its current demo form. One of the more frustrating aspects was the game’s lack of guidance. Cat of Khronos rarely offered me any tips, and when it did, they weren’t very helpful. I struggled to understand the game, and even just making it past the first chapter was immensely difficult. A more comprehensive tutorial or a better hint system could make the game more approachable.
It also didn’t help that Cat of Khronos’s dialogue or short guides weren’t always easy to comprehend. Whether it’s due to poor writing or translation issues, part of my struggle to understand the game was just trying to work through confusing and messy sentences that didn’t seem to make sense. I managed to piece things together over time, but it took a bit of effort on my part.
Lack of guidance and poor dialogue aside, Cat of Khronos still offers an amusing and mind-teasing time with all the puzzles it provides. And even if you’re not a puzzle-solving junkie like me, Cat of Khronos is still worth a try.
