Hi commanders! I hope you're having a great weekend. Today, I want to introduce two characters that we teased a few years ago. They will finally be arriving very soon, right after the June update!
Although these two tanks didn't gain much fame in history, thanks to the influence of our neighboring large-scale online military social and low blood pressure treatment game, they have unexpectedly become familiar faces among military enthusiasts. First up is the S35-CA, often referred to as the "bathtub" by our neighbors. The reason is quite easy to understand when you see its open-top combat compartment, which resembles a baby bathtub.
The S35-CA is a tank destroyer developed by the French company AMX in 1945, based on the chassis of the S35 tank. It is equipped with a powerful 17-pounder gun. However, since the S35 tank chassis was produced before World War II and most of them were damaged or modified into other vehicle types during years of warfare, the supply of chassis became insufficient. Combined with the outdated nature of this configuration, the project was halted during the blueprint stage.
Now, let's talk about the ARL-V39. This assault gun was designed by France in the 1930s with the intention of being deployed on the Maginot Line for mobile defensive operations primarily targeting infantry, rather than fortifications and tanks. Clearly, it deviates significantly from the tactical role of German and Soviet assault guns. However, during the design of the ARL-V39, efforts were made to meet the requirements of defensive operations on large fortresses. Its chassis is based on the B1 bis superstructure, which gives the vehicle a flat appearance. The main armament consists of an APX 75mm howitzer, and it also features a roof machine gun turret to deal with close-range infantry.
Looking at the ARL-V39 with a modern perspective, this assault gun could definitely compete for the title of "ugliest assault gun." Putting aside the aesthetics of the chassis, the 75mm infantry gun at the front of the vehicle even has an extendable feature to prevent it from getting stuck in muddy trenches! Oh my, how could such a devious design exist! (AC Sentry ecstatically exclaims, "Finally, there's a tank with a more devious design than mine!")
But the designer says, "I'm not taking the blame for this! My original plan was to place this gun in a turret, but the client didn't agree! What could I do? I'm desperate too!" So, you might be wondering, what happened to the ARL-V39 that Kuro drew? Well, she went to Africa for another mission...
