Rainbow Six® Extraction (Reviewed)
Developer: Ubisoft
Publisher: Ubisoft
Release Date: June 15th, 2023
Price: $40 USD
Rainbow Six® Extraction is a spin off the original Rainbow Six® Siege, removing the elements of strategy and competition and replacing it with mediocre and pointless mission based objectives in which you're granted exp as a form of progression.
When you load up your fifth match and just straight up proceed to complete the objectives as quickly as possible due to your prior experience with Siege that is not a slow paced game, you truly start to experience a sense of "Who cares?" It's supposed to be fast & thrilling, with tactics thrown in not mindless missions.
Story
In terms of storyline, Extraction follows the footsteps of Siege, in that there isn't one. Extraction is narrated through inference, collectibles, unlocks, and trailers.
So while there isn't much of a story, you can put something together if you really try hard enough. Extraction begins with Operation Outbreak.
The Chimera Virus was created by a meteorite discovered inside a Russian spacecraft, according to the Codex File. According to the same Codex, the program was purportedly cancelled, despite having made it to the moon.
The Archaens (Virus) sent themselves to Earth, because of the Spacecraft. As a result, it's possible that the Russians cancelled their program, sent a spacecraft into orbit, and the Archaens stole it and returned to Earth in it.
Problems
Everything
Sure, it's dirt cheap on Steam. But it doesn't change the fact that when it was published, this game was advertised as a $40 game. Furthermore, there is little gameplay other than "complete this mission!" congrats! Here's some extra EXP!
There is barely any advancement, no weapons to unlock, and you have access to all of your weapons from the operator you pick, including any augmentations you desire to make to their scopes and muzzles it's already available.
The only thing that really unlocks is the access to new Regions, Difficulties, Operators, Codex Entries, Cosmetics, REACT Tech Tiers, and REACT Tokens.
You can't even play alone, it has to be with other players and there are no bots to help you, making it absolutely infuriating when you have to keep putting up with random players.
Trolls
Let's imagine you're on a run and you pick up a random person. 90% of the time, that individual does not play with a mic, therefore they will not play as a team or listen to you and purposefully murdering Elites that need to be extracted for data and missions (which award a lot of EXP) before leaving or failing the mission.
On top of that, it makes for some quite vexing encounters. If you leave a game before it's finished because you're sick and tired of other players doing this, you'll lose a massive portion of your current progress and revert to a lower level.
35 Minute Gameplay
Mid
The gameplay consists of going in and completing the objectives shown, such as Hunt, Trap, and Escort. Once completed, you get EXP and move to newer areas with similar objectives that don't differ all that much from the previous.
Conclusion: Pick up GTFO
GTFO is a x100 better version
I understand that not everyone has the patience to commit hours to a game in which a single misfired shot can kill your entire team and send you back to the main menu. Gtfo is a mixture of horror, strategy, stealth, and so on, and its not for everyone. You NEED a group of people who share your values and can focus for an hour or longer, which is a difficult sell but there is a huge community of players willing to help you and play with you at the push of a button and if things go wrong a dedicated moderation team ready to handle cases effectively.
Go ahead, take a look at the trailer for the game that has been around for a handful of years. It's even getting a huge update for a new Rundown on the 25th!
Best for having fun with friends
You'll have a miserable time if you play this game by yourself. You'll have a miserable time if you play with randoms. If you play with your pals and mess around, the friendship will take precedence over the game. You'll most likely be able to sit down and enjoy the game, but not because of the game.
I can see the appeal for those who just have a console, but not for me. I have a lot of things, and I'd like something with more than simply bare bones material.
This concludes my views of this game; while my opinions may be met with criticism, that is what distinguishes gamers; you don't have to like the same things as others, nor do you have to agree with them.

Yes its a ubisoft game, so theres that, and the price tag. But you have come to a pretty strong opinion on a game that you only have 2 hours of gameplay in. First off, there ARE weapons to unlock. You also upgrade armor and speed by leveling up, and your abilities get better by leveling up. This game can be played slow and stealthy, or fast and loud, but it can also be played fast and stealthy, but u have to learn the game first. Enemies NEED line of sight to alert other enemies, so things like cover and stance are still very important, but most people dont know this. You CAN play alone, I do it if Im having trouble recovering an operator with randoms, or just for a challenge. There are less enemies, and you start with 50 extra temp HP, but those are the only advantages you get. Also, it seems most of your gameplay was with people who havent played the game before, so yes u will get people who shoot the enemy your supposed to capture, or people running in by themselves, not knowing any better. But this is true with all games. Also the very first thing you do in the beginning of your gameplay video is complain that people are going to run right in, because they dont have mics. Then once the round starts, u run right in, all alone lol. luckily those 2 randoms tried to stay with u the whole time. But you didnt even look back to check to see where they were going... In fact, you went in alone, the entire time. and it doesnt even look like your crouched a single time... As for the operator rescue mission, you didnt even wait for your team to start, and then u complain that they dont know what they are doing. Take the 10 seconds to shoot the sprawl on the ground, and make eye contact with those teammates you care so little about. Yes ALL games can get repetitive. thats why most people make/play pvp games, because it takes less effort to design, and people can get the "randomness" from the other people they face. PVE games need something else. Something like: Unique enemies, good stealth, mutators, events, and other modes. Gadgets, leveling up and team comps, can keep it fresh enough to get many hours of enjoyment. Yes it helps to have teammates with mics, but i feel extraction had a higher percentage of players with mics than most other PVE games i have played. Now it sounds like u went into this game KNOWING you wouldnt like it. And thats alright, we have all been there. But is it fair to the game, or the people reading ur reviews to see the game through ur heavy bias? I mean it must have taken you more than an hour to edit videos, and write this article. but you only played the game for 2 hours.... That doesnt seem fair in and of itself. I mean the entire video was you complaining, while you go off on your own, and claim that "GTFO is 100X%" better. People dont want to hear that during a review. they want to see and hear about the game your reviewing... And how is the gameplay loop on extraction any different than GTFO. "kill enemies, do objective, leave". sounds the same to me, except with less running around, less typing in bugged/broken consoles, less downtime and more shooting. also GTFO is painfully slow, and the consoles are pretty much required to progress, and theres is STILL a 2+ year old bug that gets u locked out of consoles....(i played 2 games and encountered the bug 3 times already). The shooting mechanics feel kinda meh, and my friends complained about rubber banding enemies the entire time i hosted. (i dont have potato internet either) I want to like GTFO, but its about to get returned if i still can.

Played with Randoms and a random who had been playing it for quite some time and even with him on the team, people would still not use mics. I play video games for hours on end from 4 a.m. to 8 p.m. I know what I want and what I enjoy, and I definitely know when something doesn't seem right, which this game did not feel on its initial release, which was not "good." I'm using GTFO as an example because it has a lot of depth and highly challenging gameplay. There is nothing buggy about it; the consoles function well, as does the lore and optional challenges, shadows, beasts, and solo-runs (which they are not designed for at all.) It's a game that takes at least 20 - 40 hours to learn the basics and hundreds more to play successfully before you start tweaking. If a game, regardless of who created it, can hold my attention for more than 2 hours. It's at most a good game, but if I have to push myself around repeatedly doing the same things, like being lost in Silent Hill or having to do an absurd amount of backtracking or looking up tips on how to continue for a few hours, it's not a game I as a gamer would recommend. I then force myself to play for at least 2 hours to see how bad it gets. However, if there is any deeper depth. I aim for 4-5, and if I'm dying, I'll be begging for it to finish because it's so dull. Then I believe it's a valid basis to dismiss the game. I'm not out here reviewing games and refunding them after 10 minutes of gaming or getting stuck on the Cuphead Tutorial.
