SHOULD I PLAY MOVING OUT 2?
Play it with your friends, but avoid it if you’re looking for a single-player experience. Moving Out 2 is a charming, cartoony game about a moving company where I played as an employee tasked with helping people move furniture and boxes out of or into their homes. It’s similar to Overcooked wherein gameplay is heavily co-op focused and most of the fun happens when you’re in the right company. The flip side of that coin is that it’s a really challenging and frustrating time when playing alone.
TIME PLAYED
I played Moving Out 2 for three hours. I managed to complete around a dozen levels and earn over twenty achievement stars. Each level took anywhere from eight to fifteen minutes to complete. The levels started getting much harder after an hour and a half and I usually spent most of my time repeating them when I failed the time limit.
WHAT’S AWESOME ABOUT MOVING OUT 2?
• Moving around furniture with friends. I had a blast playing Moving Out 2 with a friend. It was chaotic and fun frantically moving furniture around and trying to navigate tight areas into and out of a building, especially when one wrong step or shove could mean a hilarious death in certain levels. The simplicity of moving stuff around to different areas and avoiding obstacles, while trying to beat a timer, made for an entertaining experience.
• Getting some help. I found it really handy that I could tweak certain settings in the assist mode like reducing the difficulty and extending time limits to make progression more comfortable. This feature helped me farther into the game when most of the levels were hard to beat by myself.
• Wacky characters in a cartoony world. Moving Out 2 features a cartoony look with goofy characters everywhere. Watching these characters wobble from side to side with their oversized heads made me laugh.
WHAT SUCKS IN MOVING OUT 2?
• Frustrating controls. Moving Out 2 is supposed to be chaotic and messy, similar to other games like Gang Beasts and Overcooked, but the controls are difficult to get the hang of early into the game. It took me a lot of trial and error to get comfortable with moving around, grabbing stuff, and driving. I eventually had to resort to completely changing the keyboard settings to make gameplay easier.
• It’s no fun solo. Although I mostly played Moving Out 2 alone, I didn’t really enjoy the game when I played by myself. As soon as I started playing with my friend, though, I had one hell of a time. It’s mainly because the game’s specifically designed for co-op gameplay and that’s where it shines. A lot of the levels feature obstacles like sliding doors that would normally be easy to overcome with extra hands—just like moving in real life! But playing by myself left me to deal with these problems at a disadvantage which felt tedious and frustrating—again, just like real-life moving.
