Burst Space brings retro charm to the roguelite shooter

With so many gaming options available today, sometimes it’s tough to sit down and focus on a single game without getting bored or fed up with some overly complicated tutorial. Burst Space did a pretty good job of engaging me with sexy waifus, vivid graphics, and various weapon and ability customizations that made the gameplay fun without being overly complex.

The automatic aiming system made running around stages and blasting my enemies into oblivion simple and satisfying, and although it was pretty easy to cut through foes in the opening stages, customizing my character’s abilities became much more strategic to defeating bosses in later levels. I had a great time exploring skills and abilities with my character, and it gave Burst Space a more customized gameplay experience.

The narrative in Burst Space isn’t the most compelling. Disregarding that some of the translations in Burst Space make the English read awkwardly, This sci-fi epic didn’t have a plot that stood out in any real way. I was tasked with rescuing the Einherjar from each planet I visited. What are they? I don’t know... is it important? Not really. I’m not playing Burst Space because of the story. Honestly, it was satisfying enough going from level to level upgrading my character, and using the abilities, most of which had pretty cool retro-styled animations attached to them. This is where Burst Space succeeds.

Burst Space is a fun retro-styled shooter that succeeds in its simple and engaging gameplay. I could pull this out and get lost for a few hours, if only to check out the various weapons and powerups. Combined with the unique bosses, and vivid graphics, this one is worth your time. Just make sure you have a strong internet connection.
