A Relaxing Yet Fun Indie Game Worth Your Time! - Moonstone Island [3-Min. Review]
Moonstone Island is many things. It’s a monster fighting/catching game with a card battle system. It’s a crafting and resource-gathering chore quest on floating isles in the sky. It even has light social and dating sim elements in there as well. All of this is wrapped in a cutesy, 2D pixel art package.
We live day to day and have to manage our time and resources wisely to accomplish as much as we can in our allotted time. These activities can range from mining rocks, cutting down trees, crafting a whole bunch of things, planting and harvesting crops, you name it. There’s a lot of hidden treasures in the wild and smashing a rock open might sometimes lead to a hidden dungeon beneath.
But Moonstone Island’s biggest strength is its Spirit combat system. Whenever we encounter these wild creatures, we do battle with a card system that uses an action counter. With our actions we can play specific cards, feed our Spirit, tame the opposing spirit, or run for our lives.
Moonstone Island encompasses a lot of different genres and packages them into one cozy experience that’s akin to curling up in a warm blanket. Its gameplay loop is almost therapeutic in a way.
