Is this the next Nier: Automata?
When Nier: Automata released in 2017, it proved that stories about cold, "emotionless" robots could actually be really powerful. Now publisher NIS America and developer Furyu Corporation will be attempting to mine a similar vein with the upcoming Crymachina.
Like Nier: Automata, Crymachina is an action-RPG set in a postapocalyptic world and following a bunch of robot girls. In this dark future, these robot girls have to fight and destroy enemies in an attempt to become "Real Humans." But as you can see in the story trailer above, not all of the robots are convinced that becoming a "Real Human" is worth it.
And like Nier: Automata, Crymachina promises a dark, emotion-packed tale, which is probably in part what the "cry" in its name refers to. But will it actually be as good as Nier? That's a much bigger question, and we'll have to wait to see.
The game will launch on October 24, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. We'll be reporting back with a quick review based on one of TapTap's editor's impressions close to launch.
