If you skipped Warhammer 40,000: Darktide or stopped playing, it's time to give it another shot

Despite being made by the same team that created the beloved Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide and Warhammer: Vermintide 2, players were very lukewarm on last year's Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. The mixed reviews on Steam pointed to tons of bugs, a lack of content, and unrewarding progression as major problems contributing to the lack of excitement.
Well, developer Fatshark has been working away at Darktide for a year now, improving on those issues with patches adding new content, balancing classes and abilities, and squashing legions of bugs. That all culminates in the just-launched Patch 13, which completely overhauls how classes and leveling work in the game.
The short version: Each of Darktide's four classes now has a full skill tree that they can put a point into every time they level up. The skill trees are much more varied and complex than the limited progression choices available previously, and players will generally have a lot more to experiment with. You can see some examples of the new abilities available in the trailer above, but TapTap editor Ian Boudreau was also able to get a behind-the-scenes look at the revamped class system. Take a look at his impressions below:
Patch 13 has more than just the class overhaul too! The full patch notes are available on the Fatshark forums, and there's a TON here, including huge balance changes, bug fixes, some small quality-of-life improvements, and even new cinematics.
Alongside the launch of Patch 13 on PC, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is also launching tomorrow for Xbox Series X and S, and it will even be part of the Xbox Game Pass. Hopefully that will introduce even more new players to the game now that it's in a better spot than ever before.
