The latest Dragon Quest game is all about capturing adorable creatures...and then combining them!

Translate
Dragon Quest Monsters has been a spin-off branch of Enix's beloved Dragon Quest series since the first one launched for the Game Boy Color way back in 1998. These games take the recognizable Dragon Quest art style and implement Pokémon-style creature collecting and battling. It's two great tastes that go great together!
Despite being a no-brainer gameplay formula, though, it's been a long time since we've had a Dragon Quest Monsters game make its way to North America. The last one was Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2, which launched for the Nintendo 3DS over a decade ago. That streak is finally ready to be broken, though, with Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince.
The Dark Prince will put players in control of Tsaro, a, well, dark prince. Tsaro has a curse that makes him unable to fight monsters himself, so instead he must recruit them and have them fight on his behalf. He also has a special ability: he can use Synthesis to combine two monsters and produce an even more powerful creation.
Sadly, the last Dragon Quest release, Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventures of Kai, kind of sucked. Check out a quick review from one of TapTap's editors for more information on that one.
However, since The Dark Prince marks the glorious return the Dragon Quest Monsters subfranchise—and since it isn't weighed down by an anime tie-in—we're hoping it'll be a much better game. We'll all find out soon enough when Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince launches on Nintendo Switch on December 1, 2023.
