Heartland will immerse players in the heart of Silver Creek, a once pleasant town in the American Midwest, which fell into ruin following the spread of the Dollar Flu. Silver Creek is a hostile environment plagued by hordes of roaming enemies where the imminent threat of disease and dehydration is rife.
In The Division Heartland, and for the first time in the history of The Division franchise, the Base of Operations will be a shared space. The latter will be located in the abandoned “Rocky Rink” ice rink where players will be able to meet, form a group, customize their character and prepare for the next operation.
Each game session will begin and end in the Base of Operations and players will collect the materials and equipment they have collected each time they exfiltrate in order to better prepare for what comes next. They will also need to use the Base of Operations to craft supplies and prepare their travel bag before heading out on a city mission. Before each session, they will be able to choose from three classes: “Weapons Expert”, “Medic”, and “Survivalist”. Each class will have a unique ability and, within a squad, each of them will be complementary. When setting out on a daytime expedition, players will need to search for supplies and prepare to survive the night. Indeed, after dark, Silver Creek will become much more unstable with PvEvP gameplay that will require players to think quickly and work together to survive and keep their loot intact.
To successfully develop the game, the team adopts a test-and-learn “approach” by continually conducting test phases and collecting player feedback before moving on to the next phase. Players can register for future closed tests on the Ubisoft website. Those invited to participate in closed testing will also receive five invitations to share with their friends.
