One of the best games I've ever played. An absolute masterpiece that's more active than ever after 16 years. So many ways to play it and so many ways to modify it. I have 800 hours in the game already.
👍 Pros:
Active community with mods, custom servers, etc.
16 years old and lots of settings mean it can be run on the cheapest laptops and still keep a high frame rate.
Practically an fps sandbox with the amount of ways you can play.
Lots of game modes, and even more unofficial ones!
A bunch of different possible load outs but not enough to overwhelm you with the amount of weapons.
Casual and competitive community. You could literally walk around with a sandwich and 80% of people won't attack you.
Big in-game economy with lots of items to customize your character with.
Lovable characters, make sure to check out Team fortress 2's YouTube channel and watch the meet the team videos, along with expiration date (a short movie)
Big impact on the history of gaming and the FPS genre
👎 Cons:
Script kitties running "bots" which are aim botting snipers that can ruin entire servers, as of writing it's usually 2 in 3 servers are filled with them, but this only applies to the official servers.
Make sure to do your research. The default settings are, again, 16 years old and need adjustment, and the official in-game store charges 10$ for things that are literally 0.02$. Use community markets like marketplace.tf.
Although the game is "Free-to-Play" if you haven't spent 5 dollars in the official in-game store you cannot talk in valve's official servers. This means you will not be able to do important actions like call for a medic, call out a spy, etc.
Some weapons have been nerfed a little too hard, servers like the bad weapon rehab community servers do fix them though.
Valve has practically abandoned the game, the only real updates being published are ones made by the community and approved by valve.
