Sony has sparked a backlash after announcing plans to force Helldivers 2 Steam players to connect to a PlayStation Network account. In a statement attributed to Sony Interactive Entertainment, the PlayStation maker said that due to “technical issues” at the launch of Helldivers 2, it allowed the linking requirements for Steam accounts to a PlayStation Network account to be temporarily optional. Sony said this “grace period” will now expire. Here’s what’s going to happen: on May 6, all new Helldivers 2 players on Steam will be required to connect their Steam account to a PlayStation Network account. Current players on Steam will start to see the mandatory login from May 30 and will be required to have linked a Steam and PlayStation Network account by June 4.

The announcement sparked widespread backlash on social media, forums, and Discord.

Confusingly, the FAQ section of Sony's support page appears to contradict this new requirement. Sony asks: "Do I have to sign in to PSN to play a PlayStation game on PC?" And it replies: "Signing in to PSN is optional when playing a PlayStation game on PC." Clearly, when it comes to Helldivers 2, the rules have changed.

1. They enforced linking PSN account even though it wasnt nescesary to begin with. Sony is famed for being vulnerable. 2. Players who bought the game outside of PSN supported regions are now blocked, unable to access the game. They could work around it but risking permaban from Sony' TOS 3. Although they reverted the changes, as of right now(as i undertood), HELLDIVERS 2 have been removed from unsupported PSN regions on steam. Those who already have the game can still play but, no new players from "outside" can buy the game

the main difference is that, you had to have an xbox/Microsoft account from the start to play Sea of Thieves. you didn't need a Playstation account to play Helldivers
