Steam Now Banned in Vietnam: What's the Reason?
Steam's Bypass of Approval Process
Vietnam has banned Steam, with speculation suggesting it's due to Valve's business operations or complaints from local developers about Steam's vast portfolio overshadowing domestic games.
A spokesperson for one of the domestic publishers alleges Steam can release games in the country without government approval. However, Vietnamese game makers cannot side-step the compliance process.
The representative also said Valve's actions are "an injustice to domestic publishers." They added that authorities must take action, or local game publishers "will die."
Bye Bye Steam
Vietnamese authorities and Steam have yet to comment, but all internet providers in Vietnam have reportedly blocked access to Steam.
Steam is a software distribution platform and game hardware manufacturer owned by Valve that is available worldwide with a few exceptions.
