Euro Truck Simulator 2 receives a major graphical overhaul, and more changes are coming

SCS Software are continually updating and improving Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2), and update 1.50 has given the game a major graphical overhaul. Now, the game supports TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing), creating smoother images with fewer jaggies and less flickering. Furthermore, changes have been made to shadows, particles, lighting computation, and more.All of these visual changes are showcased in the update trailer below, but the long and short of it is that the game now looks much better than before. There is less aliasing, less shadow flickering, and more visually pleasing effects. The game has also received a framerate limiter. This change will come as great news for Truck Simulator players on laptops. A limited framerate will help players extend the battery life of their devices.With this update, Euro Truck Simulator 2 has received an improved UI, a Switzerland rework, and a Germany rework. The Scania Demo Centre in Sodertalje, Sweden has also been added to the game.

SCS Software has also teased further render changes to their famed simulation game. The studio has stated that the game’s renderer is “still based on DirectX 11 API for now”. This suggests that a move to DirectX 12 or Vulkan may be on the horizon. This API change could open the door to new rendering features like ray tracing or other advanced graphical effects.Now that TAA is supported by the game, it is also likely that SCS Software will bring upscalers like Nvidia DLSS, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS to their simulator in the near future. These technologies are based on the same principles and data inputs as TAA, making their integration relatively simple now that ETS2 supports TAA.
