It's the reason I've never given the new Tomb Raider games a shot, even though I know it's far from the focus of the game - but the extremely visceral death animations I've seen clips of seem less like "emphasizing the danger of what Lara does" and more like fetishizing the brutalization of a female protagonist. They're not Mortal Kombat levels of gore or anything, but a whole bunch of them just... have a really icky feel to them, like the focus wasn't exactly on just "making a death animation", y'know?
