Loading up on ammo: our favorite shooters of 2022

2022 was a year full of great targets for us to show off our skills, both in multiplayer and single-player form. And with an arsenal like these games provided, you’d better believe no one is gonna stand in our way. Here are our favorite shooters of 2022.
I knew very little about the Warhammer franchise going into this game beyond that people seem to really be into the miniatures and the like. Good for them. This game, though, is a fast and frenetic online horde shooter in the vein of Valve’s Left 4 Dead. Darktide is a damn good FPS slaughterfest. Just be sure your PC is up to snuff before you attempt to run it. -@JB
Number 4: Evil West
I gushed about Evil West so much in my original review of it that a couple TapTap users actually left nasty comments accusing me of being paid to give it a positive review. One particularly mean comment even went as far as to say I had “a tiny IQ.” Well, me and my apparently minuscule intelligence would like to say in our defense that this game kicks ass. Any game that marries elements from both Red Dead Redemption and the original God of War series, and then keeps you on the edge of your seat with pulse-pounding action throughout is a clear winner. End of story. -@JB
Number 3: Splatoon 3
A decade ago I never could have guessed that Nintendo would have a successful (and family-friendly!) shooter franchise, but here we are. Splatoon 3 didn’t bring massive changes to this series’s great paint-based battling. It did, however, provide the best single-player campaign Splatoon has seen so far, an excellent horde-style co-op mode, and the intense, polished multiplayer action that I’ve come to expect. Don’t let the bright colors and chill vibes scare you away, shooter fans! -@Kef
As someone that’s played Apex Legends for years, I’m over the moon to know that its mobile counterpart doesn’t fall short of the greatness seen in the PC and console version. Respawn Entertainment brought everything that players like myself grew to love about this wonderful battle royale to the comfort of a mobile screen. And they’ve continued delivering with regular updates of new content and additions to the roster. -@Jay Hunter
Maybe it seems cliche, but there’s a reason that Call of Duty remains at the top of the shooter pack when it comes to player base size, money made, and copies moved. Task Force 141 returns in this satisfying sequel that delivers a fast-paced, action-packed dopamine injection right into the player’s brain. From the awesome level design to the exciting visuals, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II proves that after nineteen years, this series still has a few tricks up its sleeve to hook players in. -@StaggerLee
